Are you aware of all the wonderful missions in which our church family participates?
Our ministry takes place locally, nationally and internationally. First, let me start with our local work. We have members of our congregations that give of their time and/or money to the following ministries:
Local Ministries:
Evelyn’s House – A transitional residential program for young homeless girls awaiting the birth of a child.
Hope House – Serves meals to the hungry and homeless. We provide food and servers on the second Thursday of each month for this ministry.
Abraham’s House – Provides a loving environment, physical, emotional and spiritual support for the terminally ill of our community.
Prayer Shawls – Meets to make prayer shawls for persons serving in the Armed Forces and others (shut-ins, elderly, those with special needs, etc.).
Soldier Boxes – Collects items and money to send care packages to our service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. This ministry is in memory of Betty Eastman.
East Side Mission- Provides volunteers and financial support to families in need.
Folts Home – Provides volunteers and financial support.
Habitat for Humanity – Volunteers help organize, raise funds and build homes in the community.
Seeds of Hope – Provides volunteers, food and money to help supply the food pantry.
Older Adult Ministry -J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) This older adult ministry intentionally visits, calls or send cards to our members that are homebound or in nursing homes.
Sacred Dance – Children and adults offer praise through dance for our congregation.
Prayer Chain - A group offering prayer for needs of concern.
Hospitality - Greet church members and visitors; follow up with a card or phone call. Provides delicious coffee and cookies after Sunday church services.
Music Ministry – Offers their musical talents in our services.
Quilt Ministry - They make quilts or quilted items for sale and also repair such items. All proceeds from their work are for the benefit of the Church or for church-related activities.
United Methodist Men - The group’s goal is to help men better relate to God, the church, one another, and all humankind.
United Methodist Women - A community of women whose purpose is to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the ministries of the Church.
National Ministries:
Red Bird, Kentucky – A Methodist ministry that provides opportunities for our youth and adults to participate in helping disadvantaged families in the Appalachian Mountains.
Global Ministries:
VIM (Volunteers in Mission) Provides opportunities for our youth and adults to choose from various global missions sponsored by the Methodist Church. At this time we have 4 members going to Nicaragua on a Medical Mission.
HEIFER PROJECT - Collect money to purchase various animals that help struggling families throughout the world become self sufficient.
